The Victorian Government is upgrading the Eastern Freeway with new express lanes, new traffic management technology and Melbourne’s first dedicated busway. These changes will slash travel times and improve public transport in Melbourne’s east

Symal is part of the Eastern Freeway – Burke to Tram Alliance with Major Road Projects Victoria, Laing O’Rourke, Arcadis and WSP. Our scope of work includes a new interchange connecting the Eastern Freeway to the North East Link tunnels, major road and bridge upgrades between Burke Road and Tram Road, smart traffic management technology upgrades and new noise protection to meet Victoria’s toughest traffic noise standards. The local community will also benefit from new and upgraded walking and cycling connections, upgrades to Koonung Creek Reserve and revitalised wetlands and open spaces.

The role:

As our Alliance continues to grow, we are looking a Digital Engineer to join the Digital Engineering team in a permanent role.

Reporting to the Senior Digital Engineer, you will support and deliver EBTA’s Digital Engineering strategy, to drive greater certainty of delivery.

Your every day:

  • Has good awareness of the project Digital Engineering Strategy, Digital Engineering Management Plan, and digital client requirements.
  • Strong awareness of the digital ecosystem supporting the project,
  • Works in conjunction with other Digital Engineers and reports into the Senior DE for one of the internal projects and maintains a level of responsibility for the DE performance -across the internal project.
  • Follows the processes and procedures as defined in the DEMP, Protocols, for both the CDE & federated model for the project.
  • Works in conjunction with and to support the construction delivery team through DE enhancement and to ensure project requirements are met.
  • Plans own work execution to deliver to the needs of the team and project.
  • Encourage and drive the use of smart process and technology adoption.
  • Provide technical training, user training and awareness workshops to drive enablement.
  • Support the drive to implement and extract value from the agreed project digital pillars.
  • Champion digital in all engagements.
  • Report progress against the agreed DEMP’s/protocols - ensure we are doing what we say we are doing.
  • Support the development and evolution of EBTA’s DE offering.
  • Collaborate within EBTA and its supply chain as required to deliver the digital requirements of the project.
  • Ensure quality assurance and compliance with geometry requirements, model completeness and accuracy.
  • Identify and escalate issues and risks in design or constructability, championing engineered safety.
  • Develops and maintains excellent relationships with key digital, project and external stakeholders,
  • Promotes sharing of knowledge and skills across the digital team and the project.

Who are you?

  • More than 3 years’ Digital Engineering experience a in Construction environment (eg. Infrastructure, Rail, Roads etc.) or more than 4 years of similar experience in Design
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Construction, Design or a related field
  • Experience developing temporary work models
  • Confident in developing and maintaining good working relationships with stakeholders
  • Experience in or exposure to coding or visual scripting such as Python, JavaScript, and Grasshopper
  • Ability to travel to and work from site offices in the eastern suburbs
  • Australian or New Zealand Citizenship or Permanent Residency required, as this is a permanent, full-time position
