The role:
Reporting to the Engineering Manager – Infrastructure, you will lead design management activities specifically for several Unyte solar energy projects across Australia in consultation with all project stakeholders. You will ensure that Symal’s design management process, standards of technical compliance, quality, cost, safety, sustainability and environmental performance are observed and that time schedules are met.
There will also be opportunities to work on other Symal projects including other renewable energy infrastructure such as wind farms and civil infrastructure projects such as road and rail.
This role can be based in Melbourne or Brisbane.
Your every day:
- Ensure all Symal’s design, engineering and third-party approval obligations are met in accordance with the project requirements
- Manage the overall design phase to ensure the design is completed to scope, on time and to budget in conjunction with the project Commercial Manager
- Ensures the design is produced in conformance with the Design Specification and other stated contractual objectives
- Produces in conjunction with the Project Manager, a detailed Engineering Work Schedule detailing milestones and key dates derived from the contract program
- Implements value management recommendations, records and documents value management realised benefits
- Prepare accurate and timely narrative monthly reports that contain design movements, changes and progress and status of design exceptions when required
- Resolves interface design issues and nonconformances
- Manages the delivery of project design and implementation
Who are you?
- Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or similar with an extensive background in delivering complex design and construction solar energy projects within civil infrastructure
- A demonstrated capacity to identify, manage and mitigate the key design risks of solar infrastructure projects
- Knowledge of mechanical and chemical stabilization methods—such as lime, cement, or fly ash treatment, skill in identifying opportunities to reuse excavated or marginal materials (e.g., spoil, topsoil, rock) through blending, grading, or treatment, reducing the need for imported fill and minimizing environmental impact
- Well-developed commercial, business, conceptual and analytical skills
- Great communicator – written and verbal
- Have a sound understanding of typical construction specifications used in the Victorian construction industry
- Good commercial acumen – proven expertise in establishment and governance of commercial contracts with a large number of design partners
- Ability to travel to and work from various Project offices within Victoria and interstate when required
