The Victorian Government is upgrading the Eastern Freeway with new express lanes, new traffic management technology and Melbourne’s first dedicated busway. These changes will slash travel times and improve public transport in Melbourne’s east
Symal is part of the Eastern Freeway – Burke to Tram Alliance with Major Road Projects Victoria, Laing O’Rourke, Arcadis and WSP. Our scope of work includes a new interchange connecting the Eastern Freeway to the North East Link tunnels, major road and bridge upgrades between Burke Road and Tram Road, smart traffic management technology upgrades and new noise protection to meet Victoria’s toughest traffic noise standards. The local community will also benefit from new and upgraded walking and cycling connections, upgrades to Koonung Creek Reserve and revitalised wetlands and open spaces.
The role:
As our Alliance continues to grow, we are looking for a People Advisor to join the People, Capability & Inclusion team in a permanent role.
Reporting to the Project People & Performance Lead, you will provide advice, operational and transactional support, develop strategies, processes and solutions on all people-related matters, as well as generalist HR responsibilities. By championing people initiatives, you will contribute to enhancing the employee lifecycle and experience in line with Alliance and parent company processes.
Your every day:
- Provide generalist HR advise and support across Eastern Freeway Burke to Tram Alliance for both CNOP’s
- Support and assist the roll out and implementation of all People processes, procedures and initiatives, including Employee Benefits, Campaigns and Engagement initiatives
- Provide People policy interpretation and advice to project teams, including Parental Leave and Pay and Allowance
- Facilitate corrective dispute resolution and complaint management processes, conducting workplace investigations where appropriate
- Support the implementation of company policies and practices to ensure compliance with legislation, industry trends and continue support to the project
- Ensure the Alliance onboarding and offboarding process is undertaken in a timely manner
- Work with the Resourcing team to ensure new starters and existing employees are onboarded and redeployed in line with existing policies, processes and agreed project conditions
- Facilitate and administer talent mapping, succession planning and annual review process
- Prepare regular reports by compiling HR metrics and analytics on staffing, turnover and other HR-related data
- Undertake duties and responsibilities within the general scope of the position and generalist HR duties
Who are you?
- Bachelor’s Degree in HR, Law, Business, Commerce, or a related discipline
- More than 3 years generalist Human Resources experience in a HR/People Advisor level role, preferably within the Construction, Engineering, Manufacturing or Transport industry
- More than 5 years overall generalist Human Resources experience
- Demonstrated experience providing strategic advice to identify develop and implement key initiatives and strategies
- Demonstrated experience with managing Employee Relations matters including performance, mediation and annual reviews
- Well-versed across the MS Office suite, data analytical skills and reporting
- Familiar with PageUp and/or Success Factors an advantage but not essential
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders of all levels across the Alliance, with the confidence and maturity to have difficult conversations
- Excellent written (spelling and grammar) and verbal (personable and professional) communication skills
- Strong focus on employee experience through the employment lifecycle, in-line with the Project and parent company’s processes, procedures and values
- Ability to travel to and work from site offices in the eastern suburbs (Bulleen to Nunawading)
- Australian or New Zealand Citizenship or Permanent Residency required, as this is a permanent, full-time position
