The role:
We are looking for a Senior Lawyer to join Symal’s fast paced and dynamic Legal Team. The role will primarily involve front-end work as well as some corporate, industrial relations and project operational support. The role will report to the Symal Group’s General Counsel and be based in our Melbourne office providing support to our operations Australia wide.
Your every day:
- Working closely with Symal’s estimating team to review proposed contracts and associated documents with requests for tenders. From these, identifying from a legal perspective key/substantial risks and reporting on these risks to tender teams.
- Negotiating contract amendments with prospective clients, joint venture partners and external lawyers.
- Provide strategic legal advice on intellectual property, data protection, and general commercial matters.
- Providing sign off advice in connection with the approval and execution of contracts in accordance with Symal’s policies and procedures.
- Advising project teams throughout lifecycle of projects on interpretation and contract administration issues, including strategy for dealing with delays, cost overruns and unexpected events.
Who are you?
- Bachelor of Laws degree or equivalent
- 6 years + post qualification experience
- Experience in the construction sector is preferred but not essential
- Excellent communication skills - ability to communicate complex concepts clearly
- Risk assessment and risk mitigation skills - ability to identify risks/issues and offer practical commercially appropriate solutions to manage/ mitigate risks
- Negotiation and Influencing skills
- Commercial and business acumen
