Lead the delivery of major earthworks packages on a landmark renewable energy project with Symal Infrastructure

Symal Infrastructure is delivering a significant renewable energy project in Northern Queensland and is seeking an experienced Civil Supervisor – Earthworks to join our project team.

This is an opportunity to lead large-scale bulk earthworks activities on a major wind farm project, overseeing site crews, heavy plant operations, subcontractors, and production outcomes.

About the Role

As the Civil Supervisor – Earthworks, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient delivery of bulk earthworks activities, ensuring construction targets, quality standards, and project milestones are achieved.

You will provide strong leadership to earthworks crews and coordinate resources across activities including bulk excavation, cut and fill operations, road formation, drainage, and associated civil infrastructure works.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise earthworks crews, operators, leading hands, subcontractors, and suppliers
  • Manage daily earthworks operations including bulk excavation, trimming, grading, compaction, and material placement
  • Coordinate heavy plant utilisation including dozers, excavators, graders, rollers, water carts, and haulage equipment
  • Drive production targets and monitor progress against construction programs and three-week lookaheads
  • Ensure earthworks activities are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications
  • Monitor quality requirements including compaction, testing, inspections, and ITP compliance
  • Interpret construction drawings, specifications, SWMS, ITPs, and project documentation
  • Identify opportunities to improve productivity, reduce delays, and optimise plant and workforce performance
  • Maintain accurate daily records, reporting, and construction documentation
  • Manage subcontractor performance and ensure works are delivered to project requirements
  • Mentor and develop Leading Hands, operators, and site personnel

About You

  • Proven experience supervising large-scale bulk earthworks projects within civil infrastructure
  • 7+ years’ experience in civil construction, with strong earthworks delivery experience
  • Experience leading earthworks crews on major projects such as wind farms, roads, mining infrastructure, or large civil developments
  • Strong understanding of bulk earthworks methodologies including cut/fill operations, mass haul, compaction, and material management
  • Experience managing heavy plant operations and coordinating multiple work fronts
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, ITPs, and construction documentation
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver projects safely, on time, and within budget
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to build high-performing site teams
  • Experience working in remote or FIFO environments is highly regarded
  • Current White Card and relevant construction tickets

Program & Production Management

  • Plan and coordinate labour, plant, materials, and subcontractor resources
  • Monitor daily production rates and ensure earthworks targets are achieved
  • Identify constraints, delays, and opportunities to improve efficiency
  • Support project delivery in line with program, budget, and quality requirements

Safety, Environment & Quality

  • Lead a strong safety culture across all earthwork’s activities
  • Conduct pre-starts, toolbox talks, safety interactions, and site inspections
  • Ensure environmental controls and project requirements are implemented
  • Manage quality processes including inspections, testing, defects, and close-out activities
