About the Opportunity

Symal Infrastructure is seeking an experienced Design Manager to join our Engineering team and play a key role in managing design delivery, consultant coordination, and technical outcomes across a major civil infrastructure project. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled engineering professional with a strong background in civil construction, design management, and stakeholder coordination to help deliver high-quality project outcomes from concept through to completion.

About the Role

As Design Manager, you will be responsible for managing the overall design phase, ensuring design packages are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with project scope, program, budget, and contractual requirements. You will work closely with Project Managers, Engineering teams, consultants, subcontractors, and clients to coordinate design activities, manage risks, and drive successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the design process, ensuring design deliverables are completed on time, within budget, and meet project requirements.
• Coordinate and manage external design consultants, design reviews, approvals, and design change processes.
• Develop and implement Design Management Plans, engineering schedules, quality assurance processes, and compliance requirements.
• Identify and resolve design risks, interface issues, and technical challenges impacting project delivery.
• Support commercial outcomes through effective consultant management, procurement processes, and change control.
• Build strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal project teams.

About You

You will be an experienced Design Manager or Senior Design Engineer with a strong understanding of civil construction and infrastructure delivery.

• Degree qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• Extensive experience delivering complex civil infrastructure projects.
• Proven experience managing design consultants and multidisciplinary design packages.
• Strong knowledge of construction contracts, specifications, and design management processes.
• Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation, and communication skills.
• Strong commercial awareness with the ability to manage budgets, risks, and project outcomes.
• Current Victorian Driver’s Licence.
• CPEng accreditation is desirable.
