Experience the opportunity to lead safety and take your career to the next level on a major multidisciplinary infrastructure project in Melbourne.

Join a project team delivering complex rail, road, civil works and minor structures, working alongside industry-leading professionals.

Who we are

We're Symal, a proudly different group of companies with a story of significant growth, pushing what's possible as one of Australia's largest self-performing contractors.

We innovate with intent, problem solving and delivering the best outcomes for our partners, communities and each other. That's what has made Symal a success and will continue to drive us into the future.

It's not what we do that defines us, it's how we do it: building better together.

The role

We're preparing to appoint an experienced Safety Manager to lead health and safety on a significant infrastructure project in Melbourne.

As a senior member of the project leadership team, you'll drive safety performance across a multidisciplinary construction environment involving rail, road, civil works and minor structures. You'll establish and maintain robust safety systems, lead the management of high-risk activities and work closely with delivery teams and subcontractors to embed a strong safety culture from mobilisation through to completion.

This is a permanent opportunity expected to commence in early 2027, with the potential for an earlier start for the right person.

Your everyday

  • Lead safety strategy, systems and performance across a large multidisciplinary infrastructure project.
  • Lead and develop the project safety team, setting clear expectations and supporting their growth.
  • Partner with project leadership, construction teams and subcontractors to manage critical risks across rail, road, civil works and minor structures.
  • Lead audits, incident investigations, risk reviews and corrective actions, driving continuous improvement in safety performance.
  • Represent the project with the client, rail operators and regulators, ensuring project, client and legislative requirements are met.

Who are you?

  • Experience as a Safety Manager with a strong track record on major civil infrastructure projects.
  • Proven safety leadership across rail, road, civil works and minor structures.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead safety across complex, high-risk projects with multiple contractors and concurrent work fronts.
  • Experience delivering multidisciplinary projects with rail interfaces will be highly regarded.
  • A visible and credible safety leader who influences at every level, from frontline crews to senior project and client leadership.
