Make it yours

Experience the excitement of building your Safety career in our evolving construction company, where people and performance make amazing things happen.

Who we are

We're Symal, a proudly different group of companies with a story of significant growth, pushing what’s possible as one of Australia’s largest self-performing contractors.

We innovate with intent – problem solving and delivering the best outcomes to our partners, communities and each other - that’s what has made Symal a success and will continue to into the future.

It’s not what we do that defines us, it’s how we do it, building better together.

The role:

Reporting to the Safety Manager, you'll provide practical health and safety support across a genuinely diverse portfolio — civil, structural, energy, and renewables projects across metro and regional Victoria and interstate. You'll help implement systems and processes into projects, along with project-specific management plans, while ensuring compliance and promoting a positive safety culture.

This role requires flexibility and a willingness to travel, with interstate travel required at times to support projects outside Victoria. It's a great opportunity to broaden your experience across sectors and project types. FIFO arrangements come with LAHA when working away from home, along with flights and travel time built in — a solid way to fast-track your experience and earnings.

We're looking for someone who can start as soon as possible and hit the ground running.

Your everyday:

  • Provide proactive health and safety support across civil infrastructure, energy and renewables projects.
  • Assist with project mobilisation and establishment of HSEQ systems for new projects.
  • Develop, review, and maintain project-specific safety management plans and documentation.
  • Conduct site inspections, audits, and compliance activities.
  • Support incident investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Partner with operational teams to identify, assess, and manage project risks.
  • Deliver safety guidance and coaching to supervisors, employees, and subcontractors.
  • Monitor compliance with legislative, client, and company requirements.
  • Utilise digital safety systems and technology platforms to manage inspections, reporting, and compliance activities, including remote project support.
  • Contribute to the continual improvement of safety systems, procedures, and project outcomes..

Who are you?

  • Demonstrated experience in a Safety Advisor role within civil infrastructure, energy, or renewables
  • Sound understanding of relevant legislation and industry best practice
  • Confidence engaging supervisors, subcontractors, and project teams in the field
  • A proactive, hands-on approach to risk and compliance and project start ups
  • Energy and drive to get in amongst it — you're not looking for a desk job
  • Willingness to travel and work away from home, including interstate rotations
