Make it yours

Experience the opportunity to build your safety career and take it to the next level on a major road infrastructure project in Melbourne.

Join a team delivering complex civil and road works in live traffic environments, working alongside experienced project leaders, supervisors and crews.

Who we are

We're Symal, a proudly different group of companies with a story of significant growth, pushing what's possible as one of Australia's largest self-performing contractors.

We innovate with intent, problem solving and delivering the best outcomes for our partners, communities and each other. That's what has made Symal a success and will continue to drive us into the future.

It's not what we do that defines us, it's how we do it: building better together.

The role

We're looking for a field-focused and motivated Safety Advisor to join a major road infrastructure project team in Melbourne.

Working closely with project leadership and site teams, you'll provide hands-on safety support across day-to-day construction activities and help manage risks associated with road construction, traffic interfaces, heavy vehicles, plant and live road environments.

This is a permanent opportunity with an immediate start available.

Your everyday

  • Be the go-to safety resource for project leaders, supervisors and site teams, maintaining a strong and visible presence across daily construction activities.
  • Lead site inspections, audits and risk assessments, and drive corrective actions through to close-out with the project team.
  • Support the planning and control of high-risk civil works, including traffic interfaces, live road environments and heavy vehicle movements.
  • Lead incident investigations and return-to-work processes, and deliver SWMS reviews, toolbox talks and project safety reporting.
  • Engage directly with the client's safety team to ensure Symal, client and major transport infrastructure requirements are met.

Who are you?

  • Two to three years' safety experience in civil construction or road infrastructure, either as a Safety Advisor or a Safety Coordinator ready to step up.
  • Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety as a minimum qualification.
  • Strong understanding of construction safety legislation, risk management and frontline safety practices.
  • Hands-on experience managing risk around heavy plant, traffic interfaces and live road environments.
  • Experience on VIDA or other major Victorian transport infrastructure projects will be highly regarded.
  • A practical communicator who builds credibility with construction crews, supervisors and client representatives.
