Assistant Accountant

The role.
Due to continued growth here at the Symal Group, we are now looking to bring on board into our collaborative Accounting team, an Assistant Accountant. The objective of the Assistant Accountant is to assist the Asset Commercial team with financial duties in order to maximise profitability and efectively achieve financial targets. This permanent position will initially be based in Spotswood then approx. in February 2026 the office will move to a new Avalon building. 
 
Your everyday.
With a focus on end of month reporting, your role will be quite diverse one. Being responsible for, however not limited to:
  • Responsible for end of month motor vehicle revenue and cost allocation, including MV billing charges for internal and external parties
  • Assist with End-of-month reporting, responsible for accuracy of all overhead GL accounts in Asset entities
  • Responsible for yard revenue and cost
  • Prepare monthly standing journals as instructed (including accruals, prepayments etc)
  • Inventory management and process monthly inventory journals
  • Review overheads account in detail, ensuring incorrect costs are journaled and reallocated
  • Process monthly TFM, Linkt and Viva invoice for all assets within Symal Group
  • Monthly intercompany invoices are raised accurately and in line with internal finance timetable
  • Monthly Fuel Tax Credit Allocation
  • Monthly Symal Group Insurance Aggregate reconciliation
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliation per assigned
  • Prepare journals as requested by senior accountants
 

 

Who are you.

This is a great opportunity to step into a role that will give you the experience and exposure to the Accounting and Finance sector building on your knowledge and furthering your career. Ideally we are looking for the successful candidate to have:

  • Microsoft Office suite experience, with strong Excel skills
  • Relevant tertiary qualification (Commerce, Business, Accounting etc)
  • Ideally, three years’ relevant finance and administration experience  
  • Ideally studying towards CPA/CA qualifications
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Demonstrated accountability and ability to meet deadlines
  • Proven time management, planning, and organizational skills
