Make it yours

Experience the opportunity to take your career to the next level on a major Solar and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in regional Victoria.

Join a project that will play a significant role in Australia's energy transition, working alongside industry-leading professionals to deliver complex civil, electrical and energy infrastructure.

Who we are

We're Symal, a proudly different group of companies with a story of significant growth, pushing what's possible as one of Australia's largest self-performing contractors.

We innovate with intent, problem solving and delivering the best outcomes for our partners, communities and each other. That's what has made Symal a success and will continue to drive us into the future.

It's not what we do that defines us, it's how we do it: building better together.

The role

We're preparing to appoint an experienced Safety Manager to lead health and safety across a large-scale Solar and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in regional Victoria, delivered through a Symal Group joint venture.

As a senior member of the project leadership team, you'll establish and drive a strong safety culture from mobilisation through construction, commissioning and completion. You'll provide strategic and practical safety leadership across a complex environment involving significant civil, electrical, plant and subcontractor activity.

This is a permanent opportunity expected to commence in early 2027, with the potential for an earlier start for the right person.

Your everyday

  • Lead project safety strategy and implementation, including safety systems, plans and initiatives.
  • Lead and develop the project safety team, setting clear expectations and supporting their growth.
  • Partner with project and construction teams to identify, assess and manage critical risks across civil, electrical, plant, subcontractor and commissioning activities.
  • Lead safety audits, inspections, incident investigations and corrective actions, driving continuous improvement in safety performance.
  • Represent the project with the client, joint venture partners and regulators, ensuring project, client and legislative requirements are met.

Who are you?

  • Experience as a Safety Manager on large-scale civil construction or utility-scale renewable energy projects, including solar, BESS or wind. Experience across both environments will be highly regarded.
  • Proven ability to lead safety across complex projects with multiple contractors, concurrent work fronts and high-risk activities.
  • A track record of building high-performing safety teams and influencing at every level, from senior project leaders to frontline crews.
  • Willingness to work in, or relocate to, regional Victoria for the duration of the project. Regional or remote project experience will be highly regarded.
