Experience the opportunity to lead health, safety and environment and take your career to the next level on a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in New South Wales.
Join a project that will contribute directly to Australia's energy transition, working alongside industry-leading professionals to deliver complex civil, electrical and energy storage infrastructure.
Who we are
We're Symal, a proudly different group of companies with a story of significant growth, pushing what's possible as one of Australia's largest self-performing contractors.
We innovate with intent, problem solving and delivering the best outcomes for our partners, communities and each other. That's what has made Symal a success and will continue to drive us into the future.
It's not what we do that defines us, it's how we do it: building better together.
The role
We're looking for an experienced HSE Manager to provide safety and environmental leadership on a Battery Energy Storage System project in New South Wales.
You'll work closely with project leadership, construction teams and delivery partners to establish and maintain high HSE standards throughout construction, electrical installation, commissioning and project completion. You'll combine strong construction safety and environmental expertise with practical leadership, ensuring critical risks are effectively managed and HSE is embedded in how the project is delivered.
This is a permanent opportunity expected to commence in early 2027, with the potential for an earlier start for the right person.
Your everyday
- Lead HSE strategy and implementation across the project, including safety and environmental management plans, systems and initiatives.
- Lead and develop the project HSE team, setting clear expectations and supporting their growth.
- Partner with construction and project teams to identify and manage critical safety and environmental risks across civil, electrical, plant, subcontractor and commissioning activities.
- Ensure the project meets environmental approvals, permit conditions and contractual obligations, with effective controls in place on site.
- Lead HSE audits, inspections, incident investigations and corrective actions, and represent the project with the client and regulators.
Who are you?
- Experience as an HSE Manager on major construction, infrastructure or energy projects, with a strong track record across safety and environmental management.
- Proven ability to lead HSE on complex projects with multiple contractors, concurrent work fronts and high-risk civil and electrical activities.
- Tertiary qualifications in WHS, environmental science or a related discipline, supported by strong working knowledge of HSE legislation and critical risk management.
- Experience delivering BESS, renewable energy or electrical infrastructure projects will be highly regarded.
- A credible and influential leader who builds strong relationships with project managers, supervisors, subcontractors, clients and regulators.
