The role:

As Symal continues to grow across civil infrastructure, renewable energy and defence projects across NSW, we are looking for an Estimating Manager to lead the estimating function and drive commercial success across the business.

Based at our Newcastle office, you will report to the General Manager, and work closely with the Pre-Contracts, Commercial and Delivery teams to manage the estimating process, support and guide the team, and keep improving how we do things.

Your everyday:

As Estimating Manager, you will lead and oversee the preparation of accurate, competitive and commercially sound cost estimates across all Projects.

  • Conduct reviews of tender documentation to gain a strong understanding of the tender and the strategy to win
  • Manage and support the estimating team by providing guidance and mentoring as well as regular pre-tender meetings to ensure your team of Estimators are aware of the key aspects of the tenders
  • Drive continuous improvements in systems, processes and tools to enhance accuracy and efficiency
  • Liaise with other Estimating Managers within the national Infrastructure business to ensure efficient use of resources, alignment of systems and processes, and effective client engagement

Who are you?

This role would suit a construction professional with experience leading bids or tenders as well as managing a team. You may currently be an Estimating Manager or Senior Estimator, or working in the delivery side at a senior level and looking to move into Pre-Contracts.

  • Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying or a related field
  • More than 10 year’s experience in a senior Estimating role or Construction management, within civil construction with a strong background in pricing work across Sydney and regional NSW
  • Proven experience overseeing and managing multiple bids and tendering for a diverse range of Projects
  • Demonstrated team management experience, leading and mentoring a team to achieve results
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders and clients
  • Experience with Expert Estimation is preferable
  • Ability to travel to and work from Newcastle, NSW. Relocation support provided should you be looking to move permanently to Newcastle
