Lead safety on a major renewable energy project
Symal is delivering a landmark wind farm project approximately 2.5 hours from Townsville, and we are looking for an experienced Health & Safety Manager to take a senior leadership role across this major project.
This is an opportunity to join a high-performing infrastructure team and play a key role in driving safety culture, systems, compliance and performance across a complex construction environment.

The opportunity
As Health & Safety Manager, you will provide strategic leadership and expert health and safety advice across the project, ensuring health and safety systems are effectively implemented and continuously improved.
You will work closely with project leadership, construction teams, clients and key stakeholders to influence safety outcomes, manage risk and build a strong, proactive safety culture.
You will be responsible for:
- Leading and developing the project's Health & Safety function
- Providing strategic health and safety leadership across a complex construction environment
- Developing, implementing and continuously improving health and safety management systems
- Providing expert advice on legislation, standards, risk management and industry best practice
- Leading incident response, investigations and corrective actions
- Monitoring safety performance, trends, audits and compliance
- Working closely with project managers, construction leaders and supervisors to embed safety into daily operations
- Building strong relationships with clients, regulators and key project stakeholders
- Leading safety audits, risk workshops and project safety initiatives
- Mentoring and developing health and safety personnel and operational leaders
- Supporting training, competency and wellbeing initiatives
- Driving continuous improvement and an industry-leading safety culture
What we're looking for
We are seeking a senior health and safety professional who can operate confidently at both strategic and operational levels.
You will ideally have:
- Approximately 10 years' experience in construction HSEQ, preferably across major civil infrastructure, resources, energy or renewable projects
- Demonstrated experience leading health and safety across complex construction environments
- Strong knowledge of Australian and Queensland WHS legislation, standards and Codes of Practice
- Experience developing and implementing health and safety management systems
- Strong incident investigation, management and report writing experience
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills
- Proven leadership and team management capability
- Strong understanding of risk management, audits and compliance
- Relevant WHS qualification — minimum Certificate IV in WHS, with Diploma/Bachelor qualifications highly regarded
- Lead Investigator / ICAM or equivalent qualification
- Lead or Internal Auditor qualification in ISO 45001 / AS/NZS 4801
- White Card
- Current Australian Driver Licence
- First Aid and CPR
Experience within major civil infrastructure, renewable energy, wind farm, resources or large-scale construction projects will be highly regarded.
FIFO, DIDO & Relocation
- FIFO: 2/1 roster with 30% FIFO uplift
- Flights, accommodation and meals provided
- DIDO: Available for suitable candidates
- Relocation: Relocation assistance will be provided for the successful candidate where required
- Project located approximately 2.5 hours from Townsville
