The role:
The Symal Group have entered a Joint Venture Partnership with an intent to deliver a circa $800M Solar and BESS project in Victoria, and we are seeking an experienced Project Director to represent the Symal Group and lead the delivery of this project.
Reporting directly to the Symal Executive Leadership team and the JV Steering Committee, you will have the responsibility for the projects technical, commercial and operational success from early design development through full commercial handover.
This is a unique opportunity to join, build and develop a highly capable and collaborative team where your technical expertise, commercial insight, and knowledge will directly influence project success. You will directly manage the local EPC interfaces and lead all critical regulatory pathways with AEMO and TNSP’s and the point of Contact for the IPP (Client).
Key responsibilities:
- Design & Engineering: Direct and manage inhouse design and engineering teams as well as external consulting firms to develop design and engineering from its early stage to completion, ensuring compliance with all technical specifications and projects budgets.
- Subcontractor & OEM Management: Direct and manage all OEM’s and Subcontractors. You will oversee all facets of design, manufacture, delivery, installation and commissioning.
- Financial & Stakeholder Governance: You will have accountability for the project P&L, manage joint venture (JV) partner relations, local and state approvals, local community engagement to name a few.
- Grid Connection & Commissioning: You will have end-to-end accountability for navigating AEMO and TNSP grid connection process and R1/R2 compliance testing phases.
- HSEQ: Build a zero-harm site culture, ensuring strict compliance to Victorian Work Health and Safety legislation, and ensure the project is monitored and delivered to the highest quality and to all relevant legislative and contractual standards.
Who are you?
You will bring strong project delivery leadership, commercial discipline and the ability to manage multiple complex stakeholder relationships. Ideally you will have;
- Extensive project management experience in a project delivery environment, with a particular focus on utility scale Solar Farm delivery.
- Project management experience with BESS is also highly valued
- Significant experience in delivering HV projects in Australia
- Experience and track record of managing international procurement and OEM’s
- Tertiary qualifications in Engineering or Project Management, or an Electrical Licence with suitable HV electrical experience
- Strong people leadership capability, with experience guiding project delivery teams and supporting team development
- Experience in negotiating contracts and managing customer relationships
- Strong communication and presentation skills, including the ability to present to senior management and larger groups
- Contractor-side experience will be highly regarded, although client-side experience will also be considered
