With recent project wins and a healthy pipeline of work ahead, McFadyen Group is growing. We are seeking an Estimator to join our expanding team and support the delivery of upcoming civil infrastructure projects across stormwater drainage, sewer and water networks.
The role:
You will prepare accurate, competitive estimates across labour, plant, materials and overheads for stormwater, sewer and water pipeline projects. The role involves analysing drawings and specifications, assessing risk and developing cost models to produce clear, competitive tender submissions. Working closely with Project Management, Procurement and Operations, you will contribute to bid strategy and help secure profitable project outcomes. You will also play a key role in shaping tender strategy, construction methodology and commercial positioning during the bid phase.
Your everyday:
- Lead end-to-end tender preparation, including review of specifications, RFQs, quantity take-offs (2D & 3D) and the delivery of detailed, accurate estimates for stormwater, sewer and water infrastructure projects.
- Develop competitive delivery methodologies and innovative solutions that strengthen bid positioning and improve win rates.
- Identify, assess and mitigate commercial and contractual risks, recommending appropriate allowances to protect and maximise margins.
- Engage and manage suppliers and subcontractors to secure competitive pricing, conduct price comparisons and ensure best-value outcomes.
- Deliver compliant, high-quality submissions on time, including completed schedules, aligned Letter of Offer conditions and thorough tender vetting.
- Drive seamless tender handovers to the project delivery team, ensuring accurate budgets, clear documentation and strong cross-functional collaboration from kick-off to commencement.
Who are you?
- 3–7+ years’ experience estimating civil infrastructure projects, ideally within pipeline, utilities, stormwater, sewer or water works.
- Strong technical capability with the ability to interpret drawings, specifications and complex tender documentation.
- Advanced proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office, Excel etc with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong commercial acumen and communication skills, with the ability to identify risks, solve problems and engage effectively with clients, suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Tertiary qualification in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or a related discipline (preferred)
